TRAINING TOWARDS
BHS EXAMS/CERTIFICATES
BACKGROUND: Employers in the horse world value
experience and practical ability and skills more than theoretical knowledge.
There are a number of Universities, Agricultural Colleges and Technical
Colleges that offer combined courses including training for these certificates.
The riding and the practical stable experience is generally offered only
on a part-time basis. Consequently, it is not possible either to attain
the level of riding ability and experience or the essential practical
experience in stable management and horse care which is sought after by
employers. In our training, the greatest emphasis is placed on riding
and the practical aspects of horse care.
These courses are suitable for those wanting to work
with horses as well as those who would just like to stretch their skills
and knowledge in Horsemanship and use the examinations purely as personal
measures of achievement. They are popular with those wanting to use the
time between leaving school and going on to College or University.
The YRC has been preparing students for a career with
horses since 1963 and so has full knowledge of the attributes that employers
will be seeking. The training covers not only the requirements as laid
down in the syllabi but also in the practical application of tasks more
frequently sought by employers. Personal development and improvement of
inter-personal and communication skills are other aspects of the course
that make students who have trained with us highly sought after by employers
from this country and abroad. The main career opportunities are in training
horses, teaching, yard management and grooming.
The BRITISH HORSE SOCIETY, through a progressive examination
system, offers certificates in Teaching, Horse Knowledge and Care and
Riding at various levels. These certificates are recognised worldwide.
We are also able to train those wanting to take exams with other Associations
or Societies, (e.g. Pony Club, A.B.R.S., N.V.Q.)
