WORKING STUDENT OPTION: Students wishing
to be Working Students are required to be resident at the Centre. The
work/practical training consists of caring for the horses in and around
the stables and general yard work. Exercising, Schooling and Teaching
practice may also form part of your training. You will also assist with
other activities such as shows, demonstrations, exams etc.
The Budget course consists of 43 hours of work/training per week
(6 days), the Standard courses consist of 49 hours of work/training
per week (6 days), and the Intensive option consists of 41 hours
of work/training per week (6 days).
The Part-Working option provides students with an opportunity to
opt for approximately 10 hours less work/week on either the Budget, Standard
or Intensive course
OWN HORSE: Students may bring their own horses with them on the
course and are encouraged to participate in the shows that take place
at the Centre.
TOWARDS THE B.H.S.A.I.
COURSE OPTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: The type of course
and the duration will depend on ability, previous experience, age and
finance available. The following options are available and can be taken
on either a Working or a Non-Working Student basis:
BUDGET option consists of 4 riding lessons, 1
Equitation lecture and 8 Horse Management lectures each week.
STANDARD option, as for the budget option but with an additional
semi-private lesson and 5 practice riding sessions per week.
INTENSIVE option, as for the standard option but with an additional
semi-private riding lesson per week, an additional practice riding session
and more study time for working students.
3 MONTH COURSE: This course includes the full
syllabus for the Preliminary Instructor's examination. The Stage I and
II can be taken during the course. Students wishing to take the Stage
III and PT must already be at Stage II level at the start of the course.
The final four weeks are devoted to revision for the Stage III and P.T.
exams. The intensive option is recommended to overseas students in order
to give more time for study.
6/9/12 MONTH OPTION: These options suit less experienced
students. The earlier part is devoted to gaining the necessary knowledge
and practical skills required for Stage II. The final term is as for the
3 month course. Riding should be at Stage I level and applicants should
have some experience of jumping.
4 WEEK REVISION COURSE: For students who want
a refresher or who are already booked to take the Exams. Although the
revision course does not cover the Stage III and PT syllabi in depth it
does enable students to familiarise themselves with the format of the
exams which are held at the Centre every three months. The budget option
is not available for this course.
SHORT INTENSIVE REVISION COURSE: These are available
at different times of the year. Contact the Centre for more details.
