Standard Equitation

The courses are offered all year round to riders from novice standard upwards who want to improve their riding skills and broaden their knowledge.

They are also suitable for riders who are interested in Eventing or Dressage.

The programme can be as intensive as you like or can be arranged to provide time in the afternoons to relax, watch others riding or perhaps go sightseeing.

DURATION:

You can come for a week or more or short stays mid-week. The week starts on a Tuesday morning and finishes on a Sunday afternoon. Monday is the arrivals day and the horses' rest day.

YOUR PROGRAMME:

The standard course includes 2 group riding lessons each day covering dressage and jumping shared with riders of similar ability.

If you want an extra group lesson each day we offer an INTENSIVE option.

You can also book extra group or private lessons during the week. If possible to avoid disappointment, these should be booked when applying for the course. Riders preferring to concentrate on DRESSAGE only should indicate so on their application form.

Daily practical lectures cover Equitation and Horse Care and Stable Management. Guests who want to be totally immersed in horses during their course may also assist with the daily care of the YRC horses.

THE HORSES:

We keep a range of different types and standards of horse.

For the novice rider we have horses, which are quiet and sensible.

If you are a more competent rider, we have horses, which are suitable for learning dressage or jumping to a higher level.

If you would like to receive instruction in higher levels of dressage or eventing, then you should enquire about a special course to suit your requirements.

COMBINED HOLIDAYS:

The Centre holds a wide range of events throughout the year from competitions to demonstrations and clinics given by top trainers and riders and there's always something happening in the vicinity! So why not combine a holiday or short-break with one of these events. To give you some ideas, here are some examples of events held close by:

RELAX AND ENJOY YOURSELVES IN YORKSHIRE:

Horses are a large part of your stay with us, but don't have to take up all of the time. If you would prefer to have more time to enjoy other attractions, laze around in one of the garden areas, use the tennis court or just relax, please ask for your riding lessons to be scheduled for the morning and we shall do our best to accommodate.

Nearby are the historic towns of York and Ripon providing plenty of opportunities for sightseeing. Harrogate and York also offer excellent shops, the Yorkshire Dales are on our doorstep and the famous National Trust property, Fountains Abbey is just around the corner. Other activities such as golf and swimming are also available locally.
